Feeling Light in Lanka (Mar'15)


Travelling abroad is sometimes a stress – visa, foreign exchange, passport to be kept safely all the time. But then there is the unbridled joy of being in an exotic location – a different language, a different culture, a different religion, a different people. All that adds to the charm of being on the road.

As Cesare Pavese said, “Travelling is a brutality. It forces you to trust strangers and to lose sight of all that familiar comfort of home and family. You are constantly off balance. Nothing is yours except the essential things - air, sleep, dreams, the sea, the sky - all things tending towards the eternal or what we imagine of it”

Being in Sri Lanka was an interesting experience for me. It is an exotic country, yet it is not for us Indians. The visa was not a hassle at all, the food was not too different, yet it was. The people were not too different from us, yet they were.

Travelling in Sri Lanka was one of the most enjoyable and relaxing experiences I’ve had for some time.

But then, bring on the exotic…
